Capcom Digital Day - Lost Planet: Colonies Edition

An oddball release; it seems Capcom wasn’t finished pumping Lost Planet with downloadable content and is re-releasing the game with a plethora of new features.

New single player content includes score attacks, successive boss encounters and an exaggerated “off limit mode” with extra firepower, extra speed, no ammunition.

Online play sees six new modes, some featuring the Akrid nasties that were previously reserved for the single player story. You’ll also be able to duke it out on four new maps; Crossfire City, Area 921, Lost Arena and Assault Space, and with new player models (including female and robot characters).

The entire game will feature new upgrades including weapons, snowstorms, arctic winds, first and over-the-shoulder perspectives and cross-platform play between 360 and PC.

The original Lost Planet had a compelling multiplayer mode that kept me occupied for a few weeks, but it would take more than a few maps and weapons to get me back in the snow-torn tundra (and away from Call of Duty).

Lost Planet: Colonies Edition will be available on Xbox 360 and PC in late May (May 27th for North America) for a budget price.

Capcom Digital Day - Street Fighter II HD Remix

Hopefully an ironic pun on their own nostalgic naming conventions, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a remake of the arcade classic Super SF II Turbo. All the characters, portraits, backgrounds and special moves have been painstakingly redrawn in 1080p by Capcom comic artists, Udon.

Featuring all 17 original characters, players have the options to play with classic art, rules, screen size and music, or go whole hog with the updated presentation and a brand new “rebalanced” mode, intending to make play fairer.

Playing online or off, HD Remix features a bevy of features and modes including training mode, stat tracking, spectator based online system and worldwide rankings.

Expected this Summer, HD Remix will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

Certain Affinity, featuring a handful of Bungie, RedStorm, EA and Microsoft employees, is hard at work on an upcoming casual RTS, Plunder.

Take to the seas in your pirate ship, send enemies to the briny deep and plunder towns for your swashbuckling faction.
Play against or team up with friends or AI players as you collect spoils of war to upgrade your fleet, complete the 25 maps or create and share custom made levels.

With four players on one console or 8 over the net, Plunder will set sail for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC in the Summer of 2008.

Capcom Digital Day - Bionic Commando - Rearmed

Originally released on the NES, 20 years ago, Bionic Commando is all about using your crazy robotic arm to swing through levels, taking out bad guys with your arsenal of weapons.

In Rearmed, everything is reworked for the 21st century with new visuals, a remixed musical score and tweaks to the swinging mechanic. Capcom is intent on leaving retrograde frustrations in the era they belong.

The most exciting feature is a series of bonus rooms where you play a polygonal wireframe, trying to get through a series of intensifying trials. Straight out of Metal Gear Solid’s VR missions, these tests will surely find the true King of the Swingers.

Developed by GRIN (who are also working on the 360/PS3/PC version of the game), Rearmed will be available for Xbox Live Arcade (800 points), PSN (approx. £8.49) and PC (Price, Availability TBA) in the Spring of 2008.

Capcom Digital Day - 1942 Joint Strike

In the same vein as Bionic Commando Re-Armed and Street Fighter Super Duper Retro Remix HD Special, Capcom is bringing back another classic in style. This time, the chalice has been passed to fan favourite top-down shooter, 1942.

Taking locales and designs from World War II, but with a Capcom-brand style pinned on, 1942 Joint Strike has striking 3D backdrops for old-school 2D gameplay.
Featuring local or online co-op play, the titular “Joint Strike” is a duo manoeuvre, combining fire power for a huge attack.

Developed by Backbone Entertainment (yuck), Joint Strike will be available for Xbox Live Arcade (800 points) and PSN (approx. £8.49) in the Summer of 2008.
