While we were out crying ourselves hoarse about how radical the latest MSG4 title was going to be when it hit stores June 12th, some rather well-connected gaming aficionados were pulling some major strings and getting copies of the game out for retail before the official street release. Word is that several copies of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots have already found their way into gamers’ hands in various parts of the UK with many copies being sold at Wal-Mart in the US. Konami, the makers of the game, however didn’t seem too surprised or even offended that the game was leaked beforehand dismissing the entire leak as one of those things that just happen sometimes. The enterprise hasn’t yet announced any legal action against outlets selling the game before the June 12 release which only makes us wonder if they had a hand in the whole fiasco!

Spotlight: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (June 12th)
Solid Snake’s story finally comes to its triumphant end – bittersweet excitement flourishes across the gamer nation as the hallmark favourite of many hardcore players comes to an explosive conclusion.

Solid Snake has graced the Japanese MSX and the NES, hit the Playstation and Gamecube, followed up on Playstation 2 and will end on the Playstation 3. The different faces of Snake have faced wars against terrorism, battled in the Cold War and now see the future of battle as warfare goes economical. Hordes of Private Military Contractors and Corporations secure victory to the highest bidder.

Raiden is a tattered shell of his old self, Meryl is the leader of a newly-reinstated Foxhound unit and Otacon is a little less nerdy – but one man has changed very little. Solid Snake still fights for what he thinks is right and uses every tool at his disposal to stealthily eliminate his prey and complete his final mission.

Metal Gear Beta Delayed

Posted on Apr 21, 2008 04:15:13 AM

Adding to the pile of misprinted beta codes in America and ridiculous sign up procedures for a Konami ID (and an ID for Metal Gear Online, of course), Konami regrets to inform that the servers just aren’t ready for the massive amounts of people who want to try Metal Gear Solid 4’s upcoming multiplayer component.

An announcement regarding the beta’s new launch date will be available early tomorrow morning, 6am GMT. To compensate for the error, the beta will run an extra five days until the 11th of May.

Just be sure not to go off the handle when you read that “As a temporary measure, we will be suspending the European public beta test”, the service has been delayed in America as well.

Metal Gear Online European BETA – April 21st

Posted on Apr 11, 2008 05:59:28 AM

When Konami announced a simultaneous worldwide release of MGS4, they weren’t messing around – even the Beta will start on the exact same day for Europe and America – April 21st.

While Americans are dropping cash on Metal Gear pre-orders to grab a beta code (and a shiny Metal Gear Saga 2 DVD, which we’ll miss out on), European stealth enthusiasts only need to wait until April 17th when the beta will be downloadable from the Playstation Store – for everyone.

The servers will then go live on April 21st, and shut off on May 6th. If you’re left craving man cannons, sons of the patriots and upgradable ability systems, then you need only wait until June 12th, when Metal Gear Solid 4 (and Metal Gear Online) launches.

The beta features two maps, “Blood Bath” and “Groznyi Grad”, four modes and 16 player servers. The full game will include an extra three stages, with Konami promising more throughout 2008, as downloads.

Konami has released some brand new (and slightly less green) screenshots of upcoming militia epic, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

The first set of shots (below) show off plenty of the game’s colourful cast including Snake himself, beastly boss Laughing Octopus, exoskeleton wearing Raiden and hairy-chested Vamp.

The Metal Gear Online screens (in the full post) show off plenty of the multiplayer mode’s promised features including a cover system, menu-selectable voice commands, close quarter combat and a freaking man cannon!

Metal Gear Solid 4 will be out worldwide on June 12th, 2008, exclusively for Playstation 3.
