Historians meet the gamers in the new initiative by the University of Texas. The university is on a mission to record the world history in the virtual world, which has existed only in the MMO games till now. The project involves interviewing developers, concept art etc but the problem lies in the malleable nature of the games. Video games are interactive and open to change, and history is something that you cannot change, and hence Professor Megan Winglet feels interactivity of the game is a daunting task. Just like the generals study great battle to hone their skills, this game aims to provide a repository that may help future game creators to improve their own games. Sounds interesting, we must say.

Addiction, a word most feared by parents across all strata in society. It manifests itself in many forms these days. In our times things were simple, we were either addicted to booze, drugs or sex not necessarily in that order. But with emerging trends, reports are rife about kids being sent to rehabilitation center for growing addiction to cell phones, video games, texting TV etc. Heck, kids these days get inspired by violent content in video games to commit serious crimes like murder and rape. So with the advent of online gaming in India, its time to decipher whether it’s safe for our children or is it a Pandora’s box waiting for trouble. The industry is still in it’s nascent stage with currently only one market leader Zapak, but it’s not presumptuous to assume that many big players will soon eye this platform. Games2Win, Nunook, IndyaRocks, OnlineRealGames and ilk are in the competition, but with the backing of Mr. Moneybags (Anil Ambani), Zapak has access to more marketing tools than any other site.

Whoever said music doesn’t matter when you play games on your computer/TV must have been a real bore. Gaming, as insiders would put it, is not only about action, graphics and technology behind it but also the music that comes along with the game. So, now you have the latest game, which is a music/rhythm title, developed by the Spanish software house Novarama. The game which is titled Music Monstars is going to be published by JoWood and has already made its way onto the Internet through Torrent sites and P2P networks.

Nintendo DS’ touch screen will play the song notes when you tap shrinking circles and it is also possible to change mid-song. The strange looking creatures that bop around the upper display are the eponymous ‘monstars’. Rumours contradict the claims made by the company, that it would only be released in Europe. A person probably from Novarama was heard saying that it would be released worldwide in September 2008. Until then, you can check out the cool video.
