Sega and Petroglyph have been hard at work on a large patch for sci-fi RTS, Universe at War. The game launched on PC in January, with an Xbox 360 follow-up in March.
Alongside an exhaustive list of minor tweaks and changes to improve balance and avoid bugs, the patch includes the ability for cross platform play between PC and Xbox 360 in Ranked, Quickmatch and Conquer the World game modes.
Despite Universe at War’s great conversion of complicated RTS control to a console pad, how they’ll fair against mouse and keyboard savants is another question.
UAW joins Shadowrun as just about the only games to support cross platform play – developers either can’t find the time, don’t want to ruin the game in the attempt at balance, or just don’t think it’s necessary.
Pitting players with vastly different control set-ups is always going to be a hassle, but hopefully one day gamers can play cooperatively with any platform – in that instance, what does it matter?
